Antwort auf @hannah „What is the orange color on your canvas?“ 🎨 It’s called an underpainting and is basically the first layer that is applied before the actual painting. In this video l’m using watered down acrylics in burnt sienna, but you can choose whatever you like! The underpainting can be done either with acrylics or oils (thinned down with water, if you use watermixable oils, or mineral spirits, if you use regular oilpaint). Though it is not required for a successful painting, it has some benefits in my eyes: 1. Jumpstart your painting: Get rid of all white (and the fear of a blank canvas), you can also do a monochromatic value sketch before going for colors! 2. Get a mid value to work from - this way it can be easier to figure out mid, light and dark values, because on a white surface, mid tones will look quite dark 3. Create a luminous effect: Especially with a warm underpainting, you can create a glow when some of the initial layer shows through 4. Get a warm undertone for cool colors: Painting with a lot of blue tones, the finished painting might look quite cold. You can warm it up by using colors like burnt sienna, reds or browns for your underpainting. This can also lead to a more interesting finished painting Closing thought: experiment and play around with different colors, and find out the process that YOU like and enjoy 🙌🏻 _________________________________________ Music: Alex Kehmu002F Train Rideu002F Courtesy of epidemicsound.com
